Above: Yes it is a bit tight to get in here!

Our last free camp before heading to friends Mike and Ann at Elmore was on the banks of the Murray River at Tocumwal (actually on the Victorian side which I think is Koonoomoo!)  This particular area is known as Mulberry Beach and has a few grassy campsites along the banking on the way round to another area at Pebble Beach.  The whole Murray River around here is strewn with free campgrounds, many with small beaches along the riverside.  Here is a small amount of sand below our van and a bit more further back towards the bridge.

The track in is a sudden sharp turn off the highway and downhill then emerging on the gravel track which winds through the trees; I am sure this puts some people off bringing vans in here but rewards those of us who do with a riverside campsite.

We had little company on our two nights here with no-one close by yet some of the other camps around town were wall to wall caravans; the fact that this location has no amenities is often a big plus in reducing numbers!  From here to Elmore and into Melbourne to catch the Spirit of Tasmania on Saturday so we won’t have much to post before our crossing of Bass Strait (in daylight for a change)
