Then shortest drive for a while of only 13km from our overnight camp at Bromus Dam to a 2 night stay at Dundas Rocks. Dundas was the original townsite in the district and is preserved in the name of the Shire to this day covering almost 93,000 square kilometres. Nothing of the town remains which only lasted a few years before better gold deposits were discovered further North in the area that is now Kalgoorlie.
The camping and Picnic area is about 400m North of the old townsite and at the foot of the Rocks which, like many others were used as a water collection into couple of smaller dams; this is the area of the Dams, Townsite and Rocks.
Lake Dundas is one of the largest Salt Lakes in WA and when full, covers an area of around 26,000 hectares; it si visible from the higher parts of the Rocks and an access road takes you to it from the old Townsite. This circular walk of about 9km takes us to the lake and along the shore returning via another part of the Old Coach Road (this was the original route between Kalgoorlie and Esperance)
