Leaving Port Augusta and heading out along the Eyre Highway you finally feel you are heading for Western Australia; KImba proudly claims to be the halfway point across the country and is t3h Eastern end of the Eyre Peninsula wheatbelt, signified at the least by the grain silos one of which was painted in 2017 appropriately depicting the wheatfields of the district.

The town has a population of around 700 and has a first class donation camp at the local recreation grounds; it has 3 separate areas for campers with new toilet and shower facilities, Dump Point and water taps for tank filling.
