Finally leaving the Albury-Wodonga region we set out next to a community run reserve at the small Victorian village of Oxley; this is 15km from Wangaratta to the South and has only a small local shop/Post Office/Bottle Shop, a Community Hall and a few houses.
The Reserve is 3km from town and is a huge area leading down to the King River and with Cattle grazing (mostly cows with calves) which is a fairly efficient way of keeping the grass under control!
The Reserve is mostly used for Horse Riding activities and includes a comprehensive Cross-Country course which can be hired by groups; there are jumps and obstacles throughout the grounds such as these
There is a clubhouse for the various groups to use, and for the campers as well Toilets and Showers plus a playground for the kids as well as a picnic table area. Non potable water is piped to taps around the grounds and we used this to once more do some washing in the outdoors. All of this is provided at a cost of $15/night payable through an Honesty Box system at the entrance. This was the first time we have used our newly acquired generator as we had some rather grey weather and the solar was not keeping up after the first three days.
Walking along the track all the way to the rear of the reserve takes you to the banks of the King River and camping is available all the way through.
