Top: Renee in theme for the Mexican night surprise party on the Saturday night

After 3 weeks at Laura’s it was time for a week away down the Tweed Coast as Renee had taken 2 weeks leave from Alice and rented a beach house for a week so all the other girls and the grandchildren could spend a little time away to help celebrate her 40th (which was actually June 13).  This turned out to be a great modern house with sleeping for about 12 (plus sofas if you needed them) and living areas upstairs and down.

We took the van down and stayed at the River Retreat Caravan Park at South Tweed as the house was at Casuarina (just South of Kingscliffe and only 15km away).  There are very few parks that take pets along the whole gold Cost/Tweed strip and it was also School Holidays so many were fully booked.

Renee thought it was just going to be a week of family gathering and coming and going but the other girls planned a surprise party on the Saturday night (before we all left on Sunday/Monday)  with a Mexican theme, even buying her a dress for the occasion.

We had great weather for June/July with temps around 22 and, except for Friday, not much wind and no rain; the kids all loved the beach which was only 50 metres away (virtual beachfront house) through the dunes.  The bonus was whales swimming by on their northern migration, sometimes only a few hundred metres off shore.

The beach at Casuarina doesn’t have any public parking (no shops or commercial development) so is only frequented by residents and house guests and is very sparsely populated; you see a huge difference when you go to nearby Cabarita with hundreds of visitors due to its shops, eateries and accommodation choices.
