The Convict Barracks (above) is one of the few structures still visible at the Coal Mines site on the Tasman Peninsula. Just a few kms from the Lime Bay Campground the Coal Mines site includes the settlement precinct and nearby Plunkett Point, the Main Shaft, Telegraph Station and the Inclined Plane; and the Air Shaft. It is possible to walk around all in a single loop but there are also three separate parking areas to make the task a little easier and you still end up walking several kilometres.
The engraved map displayed at each Car Park easily shows where you are.

Each of these images is captioned when opened in the lightbox with what it was and takes you on a stroll around the precinct.

From the main settlement area a path leads down to the waters edge which was the site of a jetty and Lime Kiln. Further around the beach is the site of the Commissariat Store and wharf and the bottom of the inclined Plane.
